Technology Has Always Been in Our DNA

At Dwyer Williams Cherkoss Attorneys, innovation has been part of our story since the beginning. In the mid-1980s, founder Roy Dwyer was one of the first attorneys in Oregon to bring an Apple computer into a law firm. That early commitment to progress continues today under Managing Partner Tim Williams, who describes himself as a lifelong technology enthusiast.

Tim says, “I’ve always loved tech. Anything new comes out, I want to see how it can make our work more efficient and more effective for our clients.  This gives us a real leg up against the insurance industry we do battle with, as well as against our competition, many of whom are light years behind us.”

That mindset has made DWC one of Oregon’s most technologically advanced personal injury law firms.

How We Use Technology in Daily Practice

From case intake to courtroom presentation, nearly every part of our process is powered by secure, cloud-based technology. The backbone of our system is a legal software platform called Clio, which includes two key tools: Clio Grow and Clio Manage.

When potential clients call, their information is entered into Clio Grow. This system helps the team evaluate cases, track details, and ensure that nothing gets overlooked. Once a case is officially accepted, it moves into Clio Manage, where a complete digital file is created.

Every document, note, and update is stored securely and accessible anywhere. Tim explains, “I can be at home, on the road, or in another city, and still open any case on my phone, iPad, or laptop. That lets me respond instantly instead of waiting until I’m back at the office.”

This real-time access allows DWC attorneys to keep cases moving and respond to clients faster, no matter where they are.

Technology in the Courtroom

Innovation doesn’t stop at the office. The firm brings the same efficiency and precision to trials and hearings. DWC attorneys use iPads to present evidence digitally, allowing them to highlight, enlarge, and organize exhibits right in front of judges and juries.

Tim explains, “We create our own wireless network in the courtroom, set up our projector and screen, and present everything ourselves. We’re not relying on whether the court’s equipment works or whether the lighting is right. We control the presentation so it’s clear and professional every time.”

This approach gives the team total flexibility to hold presentations anywhere—whether in court, at mediation, or during client meetings—without interruptions or technical delays.

Secure, Cloud-Based Collaboration

Behind the scenes, DWC relies on several secure tools to keep collaboration smooth and client data protected. In addition to Clio, the firm uses ShareFile for transmitting large documents and Dropbox as well as OneDrive for encrypted cloud storage. All of these systems meet or exceed government-level security standards.

The team also uses Microsoft 365 tools for communication, calendar coordination and document sharing, ensuring that every attorney can access up-to-date case materials from any location.  They also use Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and WebEx to make themselves available to each other as well as to clients, opposing counsel and the courts no matter where they are in the world at the time.

“Our technology lets us be completely mobile,” Tim says. “If something comes up in one case while I’m across the state, I can handle it right away.”

Why It Matters for Clients

By integrating technology into every step of the process, DWC ensures that clients benefit directly from faster communication, better coordination, and more efficient case management. Files never sit idle, and updates happen in real time.

That commitment to speed and precision is one of the reasons DWC maintains a 98 percent success rate across hundreds of cases each year. Clients know their cases are being handled carefully, securely, and without unnecessary delays.

Tim summarizes it best: “Technology isn’t just about convenience—it’s about serving our people better.  It’s about getting better results, faster.”

The DWC Advantage

From Roy Dwyer’s first Apple computer to today’s fully digital legal systems, DWC has always believed in using innovation to help people. The firm’s embrace of technology is not about replacing relationships but about strengthening them through faster communication, greater transparency, and constant progress.
