One of the main questions I'm asked as an attorney, as a personal injury lawyer and auto accident lawyer is, "What is my case worth? How much can I recover?" And that's always asked in the beginning. And I'll tell you this; if a lawyer tells you the value of your case very soon after the accident, he or she doesn't know what they're talking about.
One of the main things an experienced personal injury lawyer does and one of the things that we do is determine the value of the case. Anybody can settle ... Any lawyer or any individual without a lawyer can settle $100,000 case for $25,000. Doesn't take an expert to do that. But, in order to get the full value of the case, that's a different matter.
So, the value of a case is determined by the kind of injuries you have, the amount of medical bills you have, whether or not you were employed, whether had lost wages, whether or not you can work again. So the more serious the injury is, the more your case is worth. Most cases, I would say 80% of the auto accident cases out there are minor accident cases that the value is anywhere between $5,000, $10,000, $15,000 and that's because there's not a lot of medical treatment, there is no wage loss, and there is not a long-time treating with a medical doctor.
So, that is the $64 question. What is your case worth? And again, nobody knows that until you're released from the doctor and all the factors that I've talked about are considered in value in a case.
